Our Hubs

What is a hub?

The learning disability service have a number of community hubs across Gwynedd.

Community hub is the term we use to describe where individuals with learning disabilities access day opportunities, participate in social groups and events and learn new skills in a way that is open to the wider community.

Hubs are a key part of the service’s ethos, and are a new and innovative way of integrating services within the community and developing valuable relationships and links with individuals and organisations. We are also hopeful that local communities will use hubs to hold community events, and that our hubs become community assets for years to come.

 

What happens in our hubs?

Each hub is different, and therefore the opportunities available to individuals vary from one hub to another. Here’s a list of our hubs, and a brief description of some of the things that go on in each:

1. Cynllun Cymunedol Arfon Felinheli
  • Cynllun Cymunedol Arfon offers day opportunities and specialises in supporting adults with more complex needs.
     
  • The crew enjoy taking part in art and craft sessions, social events etc.
     
  • The service recently moved to new premises in Felinheli.
     
2. Cegin Arfon Caernarfon

 

  • Café that offers work experience and training opportunities for adults with learning disabilities. The café is located in the Arfon Leisure Centre, and provides hot beverages, sandwiches and snacks to visitors.
     
3. Galwch Acw Caernarfon
  • Arts and crafts shop that develops workplace training and creative opportunities in Caernarfon’s busy town centre.
     
4. Melin Glanrafon Glynllifon Park

 

 

  • The team at the Felin enjoy a wide range of practical activities, with many of them taking place outdoors when the weather permits. These activities include woodwork in the workshop, arts and crafts, handy work, gardening and much more.
     
5. Canolfan y Gwystl Y Ffôr

 

  • Canolfan y Gwystl is our primary hub in the Dwyfor area.
     
  • The hub has recently gone through a period of transformation, and continues to develop an array of new opportunities including a ‘new meals on wheels’ service, the Popty Prysur kitchen, a beauty salon and much more.
     
6. Canolfan Dolfeurig Dolgellau

 

  • Dolfeurig is our primary hub in the Meirionnydd area. Dolfeurig is a multi-purpose centre that is used to develop a wide range of day opportunities for individuals living in the Meirionydd area.
  • Dolfeurig is home to the Busy Bee workshop, which creates unique cards and crafts which are available to purchase.
     
  • During the next two years Dolfeurig will be rebuilt on the same site.
